THE PROCESS
The Initial Meeting After contacting me I will arrange a visit to see and discuss your garden, and show a portfolio of completed projects. At this meeting I like to discuss all the perceived problems, your tastes, requirements and budget, so that I can formulate a brief. Subsequently I will be able to provide you with a quotation for at least the first stage of any design work. The Survey An accurate survey of the existing garden is needed before any design work can take place. This is undertaken either by myself, or in the case of larger or more complex sites, a land surveyor. It shows the house, boundaries, existing features and plants to be retained for the subsequent preparation of the garden design. I will also do a soil survey and site evaluation. The Sketch Plan With this information I will begin to develop a Sketch Plan, which acts as a discussion document at our next meeting, when we can talk through the ideas, and make any changes. The Master Plan The final garden design consists of an individual hand drawn and coloured Masterplan, together with artist’s impressions and supporting visuals to show you how the final garden will look. The Layout Plan This is the plan from which a landscape contractor will be able to cost, set out and build the garden. Construction drawings of specific garden structures, water features or hard surfaces may be required and will accompany the Layout Plan. The Planting Plan This shows the location and spacing of all the plants, both new and existing, in the design. The plants are carefully chosen for their suitability to the soil, amount of sun or exposure, and their association with each other. An accompanying Schedule lists the plant names, sizes and quantities and is used for costing, ordering and setting out the plants. The Plants After the garden has been constructed I am able to source, supply and set out all the plants in your garden and organise the planting. I can also prepare easy to understand maintenance guidelines to ease you gently into caring for your new garden. |
